Leadership Team

Patricia Carlson – Executive Director
As executive director, Ms. Carlson is responsible for the day-to-day operations at Zumbro Valley Mental Health Center.  She brings more than 40 years of experience – including 25 in a leadership capacity – in human services.  Prior to joining Zumbro Valley, she served as director of human services for La Plata County in Durango, Colorado and director of social services for San Juan County in Silverton, Colorado for five years.  Before that she served as director of community services for almost 15 years with Olmsted County in Rochester, Minnesota.  Ms. Carlson has a Masters’ Degree in sociology from Mankato State.

Mark Bronson, L.I.C.S.W. – Clinical Director
Mr. Bronson administers the children services unit, children’s day treatment program and outpatient therapy department.  As clinical director, he helps determine and oversees Zumbro Valley’s therapeutic direction.  Mr. Bronson brings 30 years of professional experience working with youth and families to Zumbro Valley, including directing and developing family-based and community support programs for Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota and serving as managing supervisor of Lakeland Mental Health’s Glenwood, Minnesota office.  Mr. Bronson received his Masters’ Degree in community counseling from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh.

John Carlson, MBA – Chief Operating Officer
In his role as chief operating officer, Mr. Carlson oversees the accounting, finance, clinical records, customer service and information technology departments.  He also leads the finance and technology committees for the Board of Directors.  Prior to joining Zumbro Valley, Mr. Carlson served as director of operations for Christ Community Church in Rochester, Minnesota.  He has a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

Judith Eichman, L.S.W., L.A.D.C. – Chemical Health Services
Ms. Eichman administers the connections and referral unit and recovery programs for Zumbro Valley Mental Health Center.  Over the past 20 years, she has steadily grown these programs to meet the increased needs of our community.  In addition to her certification as a licensed social worker and licensed alcohol and drug counselor, Ms. Eichmann has a Masters’ Degree in community counseling from Winona State University.

Heather Geerts, L.I.C.S.W. – Residential Treatment
Ms. Geerts provides administrative oversight for the organization’s residential treatment and crisis stabilization programs. She has served in a variety of positions at Zumbro Valley over the past five years, including project manager for the Flood Recovery Partners program. Ms. Geerts has a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of St. Thomas along with her certification as a licensed independent clinical social worker.

Tracy Lee, MBA – Human Resources
As human resources director, Ms. Lee oversees staff recruitment and training; compensation and benefits; policy development; and employee relations.  Before joining Zumbro Valley Mental Health Center in early 2007, she served as human resources director for Tandem Library Group.  Ms. Lee has a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of St. Thomas.

Tina Nunemacher-Tews, L.S.W. – Community Support Programs
As director for Zumbro Valley’s community support program, Ms. Nunemacher-Tews oversees a variety of services designed to help participants improve their community living skills.  She has nearly 20 years of experience – including 17 at Zumbro Valley Mental Health Center – working in the mental health field.  Ms. Nunemacher-Tews received her bachelor’s degree from Winona State University and is a licensed social worker.

Sean Rice, MBA - Marketing and Development

Mr. Rice currently directs the organization’s marketing, communications and development activities.  He also leads the marketing committee for the Board of Directors.  Mr. Rice has more than 15 years of marketing experience, having worked for Mayo Clinic and Rochester Medical prior to joining Zumbro Valley in early 2008.  He has a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of St. Thomas.

Wendie Rucker – Executive Associate
Ms. Rucker oversees a range of activities, including volunteer administration, facilities management and executive support to the Board of Directors.  She has served in a variety of jobs – customer service director, administrative services manager, human resources manager, office manager, clerical supervisor – during her more than 20 years with Zumbro Valley Mental Health Center.

Annette Smick, M.D. – Medical Director
Dr. Smick is a board-certified adult and child/adolescent psychiatrist who has been practicing for more than 15 years.  In her role as medical director for Zumbro Valley Mental Health Center, she is responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of psychiatric and medical practices and policies in the organization.  Prior to joining the organization, Dr. Smick served as medical director for the department of behavioral medicine at Community Memorial Hospital and clinical director for Parkview Behavioral Health Services, both in Winona.  She received her medical degree from the University of Minnesota and completed the adult psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine.
