Flood Recovery Partners

SE Minnesota Flood RecoveryEstablished following the August 2007 flood, the Flood Recovery Partners program is a crisis counseling service for individuals and families impacted by last year’s flooding.  The federally funded program is designed to provide emotional support and resources to help southeast Minnesota residents cope with the mental and emotional trauma commonly associated with living through a disaster.  To date, this program has assisted 6,000 people in Fillmore, Houston and Winona counties.

The program recently was expanded through a state grant to include Freeborn and Mower counties.  This enhanced program provides assessment, diagnosis and treatment services to individuals who recently experienced the severe weather and flooding.  This program is available to residents of Fillmore, Freeborn, Houston and Mower counties.

Under this new program, residents can receive:

  • Counseling services to learn how to cope with the emotional distress and post-traumatic stress related to a catastrophic event
  • Information about common reactions, feelings, medications and coping tools involved with traumatic incidents
  • Education and referrals to resources available to assist with recovery efforts
